Projects/Experiences
What roles I've done in and out of school. What helped me grow as a leader and as a person.

01
Student Council: Director of Activities
This has honestly been my favorite role in school. I get to organize activities like Chipotle Night, BBQ cookouts, fundraisers, class merch, etc. How cool is that? It was always so rewarding to see people who don't usually talk hang out with each other at these activities! I truly believe these events have bonded more people and created so much more memories.
02
Writing Center Fellow
I've been a writing center since I could apply for the role (tenth grade). What I truly gained from this role is learning how to teach, and it is not easy. To help someone truly improve their writing, I ask guiding questions, let me read their writing aloud (usually they find some mistakes on their own), and give critiques on how they could flesh out their analysis. In turn, this skill has also helped me see my essays in a new light.

03
Community Reading Comittee
We read several books of our own choosing through the summer, pitch it at the start of the school year, and go through a meticulous process of discussion and picking the appropriate book which all students and faculty will read as a summer reading. I love this committee because a)it motivates me to reach my summer reading goals b)I can contribute to what kind of message our school receives. The book I pitched this year, When Breath Becomes Air, is about love/loss, building empathy between doctors and patients, and appreciating life, even when its limited. (It's a real tear-jerker because the author died shortly after writing about his journey as a cancer patient).
04
Creative Writing
My writing journey started as soon as I could read; I was enraptured with the way plain ink on paper told such vibrant stories and how a few words captured the nuance of variegated emotions. I write to tell my own narratives, and other's narratives. The world needs more stories because they foster empathy and they open a window to someone's true inner world, something we rarely see in this world of internet facades and artificial voices.
