Creative Writing

Reading is one of my biggest passions. One way I would spend a perfect day is curled up on the sofa reading a good novel. Since I was five, I would imitate the styles of writing I read, and it was how I learned to write my own creative writing. I dreamed of becoming a writer and part of me still holds onto that dream, despite the pressure of school and anxiety of an unknown future. Over the summer of 25', I decided on writing a book because I might not have the time in the future. Since I read many books, watch movies and documentaries, my book, "Drowned Voices: Reclaiming the Narrative" is a collection of retellings of those media ranging from the Aeneid to the movie ROMA by Alfonso Cuaron. In each retelling, I try to imagine the life of marginalized voice in a different cultural context, with a more empowering ending, or with more control of the narrative. The book is a dedication to my younger self and all the kids out there who have ever had a writing dream. It's a reminder that no matter what happens in the future, at least right now, I can enjoy creative writing and use it to empower those traditionally neglected voices, like women.
