Retellings

1 / The Crimson Betrayal

Retelling of the Aeneid from Dido, queen of Carthage's perspective. Often seen as "crazy" for committing suicide in the original text. My retelling transforms her from a flat character to one with ambitions, flaws, and dynamics.

2 / Cassandra the Soothsayer I and II

Retelling of the mythic events of the Trojan War from Cassandra, daughter of King Priam of Troy. Cursed to have no one believe in her prophecy that Troy would fall. My story captures her inner turmoils, emotions, and humanity.

3 / My Life with Efuru

Retelling of Efuru by Flora Nwapa, first novel to be published internationally by an African woman. Explores Efuru's womanhood as an Igbo woman in twentieth century colonial West Africa. I retold from Efuru's adopted daughter Ogea's perspective, highlighting the intricate of a mother-daughter relationship.

3 / Divine Queen

Retelling of Cleopatra's real historical story. Often known for seducing Roman men, Cleopatra's leadership and benevolence is ignored. Retelling focuses on her calculating, charming, caring character.

3 / Do You See My Mother?

Retelling of black and white movie Roma by Alfonso Cuaron.
